Theren scouted out the tunnel but missed a hidden passage a few hundred feet inside. Luckily, Nim spotted it and Theren discovered recent traffic had come through it. The tunnel opened into an irregular cavern lit dimly by a strange glow that emenated from the glittering stones. The way forward was nearly blocked by an interlocking array of stalactites and stalagmites, resembling nothing so much as ranks of teeth. The dim light made features beyond a few feet difficult to make out. In front of the barrier was a small statue of a raven on a pedastal, wings outstretched. Elven runes were carved into the statue’s pedestal, at the foot of the raven figure. The dark, shining rock of the statue seemed dull and rough in spots. There was the presence of dried spatters.
Theren tried to move between the teeth and the moved to try to crush him. The party soon realized that a blood offering needed to be made by each of them in order to pass through the teeth without being attacked by the trap. The chamber rapidly narrowed to a recess roughly 10 feet wide. Swirling darkness filled the end of the recess, and a font on dark stone stood nearby. As the party members were clearing the teeth Uthrid, Rudy and Theren were enveloped in darkness. Nim used his True Seeing device to see through the darkness and witnessed a dark stalker and two shadar kai warriors attacking Uthrid. Theren and Rudy managed to move out of the darkness which was emanating from the dark stalker but Uthrid took some harsh wounds. Nim and Uthrid managed to hit the enemy a few times but Uthrid was soon knocked unconscious. Rudy managed to help him and the dark stalker was killed. Once the party got their visability back the two shadar kai warriors were no match for them.
Rudy, Uthrid, Nim and Theren studied the swirling blackness and determined it was a portal and that their attackers had come through it. Theren and Rudy entered the portal and Nim and Uthrid followed. Before Theren and Rudy was a wide corridor that was lit dimly by a flickering glow from beyond the opening ahead. Cruelly barbed hooks projected from the walls every few feet.
The hulking forms of several humanoid creatures blocked the opening. They were clad in hide armor and hefted crude battleaxes, and below each heavy brow glared a single eye. The cyclops in the middle was preparing to charge the two adventures and likely impale them on one of the barbed hooks in the wall. Theren quickly loosened two arrows. The first struck the middle cyclops directly in the center of his eye and his charge was abruptly cut short as his brain was destroyed and he died instantly. The second arrow caught the cyclops on the left in the neck and a burst of greenish blood sprayed the wall. The creature’s crude axe fell to the floor as it’s hands feebly grasped at its wounded neck. It fell to its knees and its large eye rolled up in its head. It slumped over as blood gushed from the artery the arrow had torn open.
Rudy engaged the remaining cyclops as Uthrid and Nim came through the portal. A shadar kai weilding a barbed chain appeared behind the cyclops. The chain fighter attacked Rudy and Uthrid ran up and attacked the cyclops. Nim and Theren wounded the chainfighter but Rudy was partially blinded by a shadar kai witch named Vandariel, the Voice of Pain.
The great hall extended more than 50 feet to the east, with sharply angled alcoves. It was dimly lit by a shimmering circle on the floor at the far end and by the glow of a smoking brazier. A fountain to the west was surmounted by a relief carving of a cloaked figure and more cruel hooks adorned the walls. At the center of the shimmering circle was a barred enclosure in which a manacled eladrin wearing only a loincloth crouched periodically shouting elven curses and growling in pain.
The chainfighter was killed and the witch caught Theren, Nim and Utrid in a wall of swirling blades. They retreated away from the blades and were sliced up a little. Rudy regained his sight and tried to help the eladrin in the cage but when he tried to cross the circle he ran into an invisible barrier. The witch teleported behind the wall of blades and cast spells such as Lance of Dark Faith and Beshadowed Mind at the adventurers. They fired back with missle weapons and then Rudy circumvented the wall of blades by climbing over the fountain in the west part of the northern wall. The witch was bloodied. She dispelled the wall of blades and ran into the shimmering circle and began working on a new spell. The party unleashed ranged attacks on her but before they could slay her she teleported out of the room.
Along the soutern wall by the magic circle was a stone altar topped with the symbol of the Raven Queen. Black candles were lit, and a sacred book was open to the liturgy of a ritual. The altar emenated an Aura of Pain which caused the party severe discomfort when they neared it. Nim and Theren found they could enter the magic circle. They found keys to the cage and the manacles and released the eladrin who was the Younglings chief, Ashsam. The barbarian chief retrieved one of the cyclops’ battleaxes upon his release and attacked the altar, eventually destroying it and the Aura of Pain. Ashsam found his belongings under the altar as well as 3000 gold pieces which he was fine with letting the adventurers claim. Nim also took the ritual book.
